Potato Science Education: History, Science, Education & Recipes!

Everyone loves potatoes! (YUM) And potatoes are a great way to teach science: genetics, biochemistry, nutrition, sustainable farming, kitchen chemistry, and even electricity! (Did you know you make a battery out of a potato?) Join us online in social virtual reality for our second year in a row to celebrate all things potato, during Potato Expo (usually in Las Vegas, but virtual this year) and the Association for Science Education's annual conferences. Via the magic of VR, we'll meet aboard a giant magic potato cutting board floating above the Las Vegas strip!

If you're seeking a really great treat, potatoes are the things you must eat. Please keep them in mind, if you're so inclined, 'cause they're better for you than red meat.... [not my poem, but I cannot find its author...]

RE Las Vegas, remind me to tell you about the time I mistook Jerry's Lucky Nugget giant neon sign for giant golden baked potato...

This informal online meetup is unaffiliated with the Potato Expo and the Association for Science Education (though we encourage you to click through the following links to register and attend these now virtual conferences)

PS This year's Acton Fall Fair in Ontario, Canada was to have a potato theme. It was, unfortunately, cancelled due to Covid-19. However, it had the most remarkable prospectus! https://actonfair.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/2020-Advanced-Book.pdf
