Importance of Maritime Virtual Reality
Ephrem Dela Cerna Jr, CEO
Ephrem Delta Cerna Jr. is the founder of Seaversity and PCI Tech in the Philippines. Seaversity is a Maritime Virtual Reality app that uses gamification to promote maritime and shipping simulations, training, and education. His work is breaking new ground in this industry, using spatial technologies combined with education and training to propel the Philippines in creating world class seafarers.
Ephrem Dela Cerna Jr. is the founder of Seaversity and PCI Tech. A sailor for 13 years, from cadet to Chief Engineer under the Norwegian Scholarship Project Alpha Program, he switched his focus to combining Technology, Training and Education, teaching at maritime universities and heading research and developments in various institutions of the Philippines. A Certified Kongsberg Instructor and Assessment Programmer for the conduct of simulations in the Asia and Pacific, he was the speaker at Interferry 2019 in London on the topic on the Reality of Virtual Reality on the Maritime Industry.
Embodiment: Evidence for Learning by Doing in VR
Jack Ratcliffe, PhD Candidate, Queen Mary, University of London
Discussing recent research that provides evidence that leveraging embodied controls and interaction in a VR environment is beneficial for language memorisation, and perhaps cognition in general, Jack Ratliffe will explore the impact of VR in education and language studies.
Jack is a PhD candidate in the Cognitive Science and Media Art Techologies laboratories at Queen Mary, University of London. His research involves learning and embodied controls in immersive environments.
